About

Janice Martindale is a licensed professional counselor who provides trauma informed, Art Therapy and transpersonal psychotherapy. Janice completed her master’s degree at Naropa University in Boulder, CO in transpersonal counseling and Art Therapy. During Janice’s educational journey at Naropa she developed her own contemplative practice focused on fostering mindfulness and meaningful connection within the therapeutic relationship.

Janice believes that spiritual aspects of the human experience are an important part of the healing journey. Through the transpersonal lens of psychotherapy, Janice implements several techniques including meditation, guided visualizations, dream work, and art for manifesting and exploring the various facets of the human experience. In addition, Janice utilizes a client-centered and strengths-based approach that encourages clients to access their own inner wisdom as they courageously embark on the hero’s journey and the healing path. Janice understands that this can be a daunting path to take alone and wants to offer the necessary guidance and illumination to complete your journey and reach personal transformation. Janice provides a warm and inviting presences for bringing forth internal symbols and images that help you on the way to self-discovery, understanding, and self-compassion.

Janice is passionate about facilitating emotional healing and personal development through symbol work and symbol amplification. Janice trusts in the innate wisdom and courage of each person including their capacity for connection and growth. Janice utilizes elements of a non-pathologizing modality called Internal Family Systems (IFS) which focuses on uniting the individual with their core self. Many experiences can separate the individual from their core self which make it difficult for them to live life to its fullest. A portion of parts work is centered on bringing compassion and curiosity to all the parts of self, including the parts that have been separated due to experiences of trauma. Janice incorporates Jungian archetypal and shadow work for exploring deeper aspects of the self as a step towards deeper self-realization. Some parts hold difficult emotions including anxiety and depression. To address difficult symptoms associated with trauma Janice incorporates Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Focus-Oriented, and somatic experiencing techniques into the therapeutic space. Prior to working with Brave Embodiment, Janice has worked in a residential and inpatient facility for the treatment of eating disorders. During her time at this facility, Janice facilitated Art Therapy groups focused on exploring relationship to self and body and self-compassion. Janice also has experience working with survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. Through this experience Janice has cultivated an extensive understanding of the neurobiology of trauma and how the body and nervous system is affected by a traumatic event and reoccurring trauma.

Outside of work, Janice spends her time creating artwork, roller skating indoors & outdoors, hiking, spending time with family and volunteering for the Colorado Art Therapy Association as their membership chair.
