About

Sylvia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado, currently providing telehealth services from the Midwest. She utilizes a holistic approach integrating the body and mind systems through therapy models such as CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, DBT and trauma informed therapy with the emphasis on how the nervous system directly impacts mood and functioning. Sylvia is passionate about providing support to her clients while on their journey of healing whether it is from long standing stress and burnout or traumas experienced throughout the lifespan. Sylvia also utilizes Gottman therapy methods in couples counseling and emphasizes a deep understanding of each party involved and fostering a meaningful connection of the couple. One of Sylvia’s passions is supporting mothers in their journey of motherhood. Helping clients be the mother they’ve envisioned themselves to be and remain aligned with their own identity during this transformative time. Sylvia has worked in various settings over her career from treatment foster care, to residential treatment facilities and community mental health. Sylvia has also worked with Veterans at the Veterans Administration and has continued to provide telehealth services since 2018. Sylvia is passionate about teaching her clients and having the tools to manage daily needs, stress and understand how stress and trauma change the brain and how to move towards healing and optimal functioning after a difficult or traumatic event. Sylvia strives to create and maintain a supportive and compassionate environment while encouraging growth through self-understanding and self-awareness through narratives that have been created and shaping new narratives for a healthier and happier future.

Since she was a young child, Sylvia knew that she wanted to be in a serving capacity as part of her vocation one day, however, was unsure what that would look like. Upon learning about social work she studied social work at Andrews University in Michigan and received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees there. Sylvia began her social work career in the area of foster care where she worked as a case manager and therapist. After six years she moved onto providing therapy services in residential treatment settings where she served children, teens and their families. After a few moves to be closer to family, Sylvia worked at the Veterans Administration outpatient clinics in New Mexico and Colorado and served Veterans as a case manager and therapist. Upon moving to the Midwest in 2017, Sylvia began working online. Although that was not part of the plan originally, requests from previous clients started coming in to see her virtually and Sylvia began her private practice and has been active ever since. Sylvia delights serving in this capacity as there are many who cannot leave their home or feel safest in their own environment.

Outside of work Sylvia enjoys spending time with family and raising her young daughter. Having access to Lake Michigan, many days are spent at the beach or climbing the sand dunes. Sylvia enjoys traveling as she herself spent her teenage years in Europe and has lived and worked in six States in the United States. Sylvia enjoys listening to audiobooks on different topics such as holistic health, youngevity, spirituality, motherhood, creating a home environment that assists in the healing process and infusing all of this with a good dose of humor. A new hobby she has recently picked up is diamond painting.
